The DISC Workshop: Exploring the behavioural styles of the DISC method in an interactive way

The DISC method is a powerful tool for getting to know yourself and others. By identifying dominant behavioural styles, it helps to improve communication, smooth interpersonal relations and strengthen team cohesion. Used in a professional, educational or training context, it has an even greater impact when discovered in a fun and participative way. That’s the aim of the DISC workshop presented here.

Objective of this workshop

The DISC workshop aims to enable participants to discover the 4 major behavioural styles (Dominant, Influential, Stable, Compliant) and to understand their own preferences and those of others. The aim is threefold:

  • Anticipate reactions and needs according to profiles;
  • Adapt communication to improve efficiency and reduce tension;
  • Promote better mutual understanding within a team or group.

Benefits

For the facilitator:

  • Offer a dynamic, interactive and structured activity;
  • Facilitate exchanges between participants within a clear framework;
  • Obtain immediate feedback on the perception of different styles.

For the participants:

  • Get to know themselves better and understand others better;
  • Learn to adjust their communication according to DISC profiles;
  • Enjoy an engaging and concrete collaborative experience.

How does it work?

Durée totale : 1h15

Total duration: 1h15

1. Icebreaker and introduction to the DISC model (10 min)

To break the ice, the facilitator can ask the participants to position themselves in space along two axes: rhythm (fast/slow) and orientation (objectives/relationship). This provides an initial intuitive illustration of the DISC model. The facilitator then explains the diagram and the symbolism of the colours.

2. Group work on the 4 styles (15 min)

Participants are divided into groups. Each group works around a table dedicated to one of the 4 behavioural styles. They imagine the strengths, areas for attention and areas of stress of the behavioural style they are working on. Participants change tables every 3 minutes to explore each style.

3. Collective visit of the renderings (20 min)

All the participants go through the four tables in succession to look at their work. For each style, the facilitator presents a summary.

4. Focus on team DISC (10 min)

The facilitator presents case studies of team profiles. He highlights the advantages of behavioural diversity in group dynamics.

5. Case study and feedback (10 min)

Participants are again divided into small groups. They apply the knowledge they have acquired to a concrete situation. They look for communication strategies adapted to each DISC style.

5. Feedback and closing (10 min)

The workshop closes with a collective debriefing and a discussion.

Examples of use

One of the great advantages of the DISC workshop is its flexibility: it can easily be adapted to different audiences and educational objectives, while retaining its fun and participative dimension.

1. With students: getting to know each other better to better integrate into a company

Prior to a work-study placement or a first job, this workshop enables students to develop their relational intelligence and better understand the expectations of the professional world.

They learn to recognise their strengths, identify differences in the way they work… and lay the foundations for healthy communication in a team environment

            Testimonial from Séverine Daniel, coach and DISC practitioner

“I ran this workshop with Master 2 students from a variety of disciplines (design, marketing, IT) who had to work together on a business project in a multi-disciplinary team.

The aim was to help them get to know each other better, understand the differences in the way they work and build an effective group dynamic.

The results:

- individual and collective awareness
- Improved communication within groups
- An increase in efficiency from the very first hours of the project

This workshop also made it possible to anticipate relational tensions and to establish a healthy framework for collaboration, based on listening and the complementary nature of the profiles.”

2. With employees: smoothing interactions in hybrid teams

In a remote or hybrid working environment, misunderstandings can quickly creep in. The DISC workshop enables employees to better understand the needs and reactions of their colleagues, so that communication can flow more smoothly and respect each other's rhythms.

It's also an excellent way of creating a calmer team dynamic, even at a distance.

3. With trainers: adapting your posture according to DISC profiles

The workshop is also very useful for training professionals. It helps them to identify the different styles of learner and adapt their teaching approach accordingly.

The result: better management of interactions, more relevant feedback and a more harmonious learning climate.

Glowbl offers a virtual environment perfectly suited to running DISC workshops, thanks to its immersive features:
  • Independent tables around which groups can work;
  • Customisable tables in the colours of behavioural styles;
  • Autonomous movement to engage participants and ensure smooth transitions between group and sub-group work;
  • Integrated collaborative tools such as collaborative notes, whiteboards on which participants can work together;
  • Smooth management thanks to the sequence tool, which allows you to structure the workshop in several steps beforehand and to associate each step with specific layouts for each table in the space, participant rights, content to be projected onto each table and facilitation tools to be launched;
  • Timers to organise time in sub-groups;
  • Announcements to broadcast instructions throughout the room;
  • Polls to assess participant satisfaction.
